Friday Fodder

As you know, today our House of Representatives will debate (and possibly vote) for the second time, regarding a "buyout" costing $700,000,000,000. The first fell short by 13 votes on Monday causing a dip on Wall Street. On Wednesday, the Senate passed a plan including the previous amount + $120,000,000 of tax breaks etc.

Although I'm interested in politics, As The Crow is not the time and place. Just a couple of things today:

1. Pundits have said the legislation passing or failing to pass is a "life or death situation" for our economy. In other words, passing this law will save us or failing to act will cause the economy to go into a tailspin and lead us into similar situations as the Great Depression. Someone needs to cue the Chicken Little music here. The sky is falling! The sky is falling! If one listens to our leaders, it seems that success or failure is based on what we do or don't do. Do you ever get the sense that God is just shaking his head? Isn't it time that we place our faith in God rather than man?

2. Our society has become a place where victims are rampant. In other words, there is no personal responsibility for anything that goes south in my life. "It's the way I was raised, my co-workers, or just bad luck that has caused all of my problems." In the case above, we blame the creditors, the "players" on Wall Street, or the government. When does it become my responsibility to refuse a credit card, a mortgage I can't afford, etc.

Just a few things to chew on. I'll be glad to hear what you have to say.

Greed.....that's what it comes down to greedy bankers, greedy borrowers, greedy lawmakers. A society bassed on "self". Like you stated last week in your discussion concernign prayer requests. We have failed to focus on the one stable truth, Gods in control. We whine about our own condition, health, finance what ever. Self Greed is all about the same. Bad behavior and they want someone, maybe God, to pay the price for them.

They fail to praize Him for the price already paid. They fail to follow His written advise, no instruction, concerning personal finance and financial behavior. Self gets in the way. Greed and self all the same.

Sorry, So says Mike Boomer Sooner

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conquerors we are!

His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

I want someone to bail me out. Now lets see. We bailed out the airline industry, the automotive industry and now wall street. Why should I be responsible for my actions, why cant someone just bail me out?

Hey Boomer!

Greed is what it's all about for many people. What would the big guys think of Phil. 4:11-13?

Blessings,
Mike

700 Billion dallars is a lot of money. It would be great if they would use that money to pay off student loans. :-) Or Mortages. Or provide us with health insurance. Or lower gas prices. Or divide up the money to every American.
I don't know.
But one thing I do know that believers need to remember is that God takes care of his people. David says, "I have never seen the rightous forsaken and begging bread. Think about how many times in your life when you needed money, a bill paid, food, and God provided it. I know there have been countless times where God provides what I need. He is so good. I think as believers we should trust God during these difficult times. Part of that trust is continuing to give what we have been giving to God. Our first. Our best. When we give God our best especially during times of hardship God's blessing overflow in our lives. No I definatley am not saying that if you give to God you get rich or what you want (Health and Wealth Gospel). No. He does provide what we "need" when we "need" it. mcrow than you brother for sahring and allow us to discuss this important topic. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Keep up the great blogging!!!!!!!!!

Just bail me out. I am not asking too much. ;)

Lets keep following Jesus. That pathway is a little more stable than the plans of man.

"Lets keep following Jesus."

We all have to take some responsibility here. We are all guilty, at least on some level, of living beyond our means. I like Shane Claiborne's quote "There is enough for every man's need, but not for every man's greed."

On another note, Mike I wanted to thank you for inquiring more than once about our friends that are going through a tough time right now. I think they are going to make it thanks to God's grace and the prayers of many brothers and sisters in Christ. Thanks for your prayers. God Bless!
