A New President

The "call" was made just after eleven Eastern time. Finally, after the longest Presidential campaign in the history of our country comes to an end, we have a President Elect. The campaign has inundated our lives for the last five hundred days.

Senator Barack Obama (D-Il.) will be sworn in as the forty-fourth President of the United States in January 2009. He made his victory speech just after midnight (Eastern) on November fifth. President Elect Obama gained more of the popular vote than any Democratic candidate since Lyndon Baines Johnson.

Many people will be estatic about promised change. Others will be disappointed for days, weeks, and even months. Both feelings are nothing new. They're collectively felt, at least every four years.

When the emotions wane and life begins to happen again, it's important to take hold of what we believe. Even though the future is unclear, we serve the One who is firmly in control!

"Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.
Before the foundations were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God."

Psalm 90:1-3 (NIV)

Of this we can be sure!

Wow! Two days in a row! More lessons that I seem to never fully learn. One I have learned is that God is always by our sides. He provided us with the Holy spirit and I know he will continue to guide us as long as we faithful.

My worry is that we, as a nation, may not remain faithful. Many have already turned away, listening to the feel good, have it your way guys.

Thank Him for His love, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. He knows what is best for us.

So Says Mike

Wonderful words brother Mike. I know that I feel go great to make a difference for our nation. I believe that racism in America has been healed. The walls of racism in this country has fallen. No more can anyone of any race give the excuse that one can't succeed because of race. Any race can become anything they dream and work hard in becoming. The dream of Martin Luther King has defiantely beome a reality. It is so uplifting to see the passion and heart that our new leaders have for our country. I believe that Americans reputation in the world is going to change and we will again be able to set the example for all nations. Thanks Mike for sharing this great post with us. You do such a fantastic job with your blog. Keep up the wonderful job you do. I hope you have a great week.

Yes, we all need to remember as believers that God is still God. God is always for us. God blesses and has always blessed the righteous. So, whether we like our leaders let us as believer continue to strive to be righteous in our nation. I believe living righteously will make the real diffence in America for Jesus Christ.

Preacherman? Their Marxists! Race doesn't figure into that! In 1959 Khrushchev said "We cannot expect Americans to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism until they suddenly awake to find they have Communism!"

As for setting examples for nations? We are the GREATEST NATION with the greatest economy and most the FREE. We were a Christian Nation and were blessed for it. WE are the Example, have been the example and will be again an example. I, personally, have never lost my PRIDE of being American, No other contry has set so many people FREE. No other county has provided so many with OPPURTUNITY!

Great post, I agree. Our mission will never change regardless of who is elected President, Love God and Love Others.

whatever our strength our country has been, is only because God has allowed it. i am grateful that God has allowed blessing and grace, but, even if any of us do not continue in blessings of abundance, we can still be thankful for His grace. you are right that believers must take hold and look to the one we believe in, no matter what is in God's will for this country or the world, we must stand firm.

We need to be praying for our president-elect, and let's not write him off yet. I for one am not so pessimistic. Though we need to keep realism in the picture, something Obama himself strongly subscribes to through the influence of Reinhold Niebuhr on his thinking.

Yes! God is on the Throne, and always will be! Jesus is Lord!

Hey Anon/Mike!

You're worry for a faithless nation is understandable. But despite unfaithfulness throughout time, there's always been a remnant. The Spirit of God will never be disposed of.

Thanks for the comment!

Kinney -
Thanks for the kind words. I do hope you're right about the racial divide. However, I'm a bit skeptical. I continue to pray for unity.

Hello Anon,

Thanks for stopping by. If it's at all possible, I do hear passion in your words. Our country has been blessed and will continue to be blessed. The question is: What do we do with the blessing?

I have my political views as well. However, it's time we all we support the President Elect (at least the office) and worked within our own lives, neighborhoods, and communities to affect greater change (spiritual).

I'm not sure about being a Christian nation. Of course, we were created upon Christian principles. But the fruit(s) of a relationship with Christ has been hard to see - at least in my lifetime.

Again, welcome!

Amen Cheryl! You seem to get it!

Hey Nancy!

Our blessings will always be there. In other words, a personal relationship with Jesus Christ (the greatest blessing ever) is not going away.

Don't you think people equate "blessing" with how much money is in the bank etc. too often?

As always, you have good words.

Hlo Ted!

I didn't mean to infer "writing him off" or pessimism whatsoever.

We must pray for him and trust in God.

It's always good to see you!
